Stathakopoulos Panagiotis

Curriculum Vitae:
Professor Panos Stathacopoulos is a full time professor at the School of Architecture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Director of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and Development and the Laboratory of Urban Planning and Environment. In 1973 he obtained his MA in Architecture from the School of Fine Arts of Paris. In 1974 he obtained his MA in Sociology from the Sorbonne University. In 1975 he obtained his diploma from the Institute of Urbanism of Paris. In June 1975 he obtained his PhD “Docteur en Urbanisme, Environment et Architecture” from Pantheon University Sorbonne. The same year he obtained his Masters in Environment and in 1977 he completed his DEA in Sociology at  the Sorbonne. In March 2000 after a public presentation he obtained a PhD in Urban Geography at the University Paul Valery in Montpellier. 

His work and career can be analysed and characterized by the following periods. The first period from 1965 -1974 refers to his student years in Paris (May 1968) and as a working Architect-Urban Planner. He completed this stage of his career with a number of designs and projects. The second period from 1976-1979  is defined by a busy professio­nal activity. In the third period from 1979-present he returned to Greece, initially to Larisa and subsequently to Thessa­loniki, where he still lives today. This period is defined by an intense focus on Urban Planning both in terms of projects and research. At the same time his academic career began.  During his stay in France he cooperated with various architectural and urban planning offices such as France Habitat, R. Lopez and P. Vimond, and periodically at O.C.D.E. 

He is the author of a substantial number of books and has published many articles and research papers in established magazines in Greece and abroad. He has given lectures in foreign university institutions and has won several architectural and urban planning competitions in Greece and abroad.   In 2008 he was awarded the first prize by the Hellenic Society of Urban and Country Planners (SEPOX) for his city planning and design of the city centre of Larisa. 

Since 1999, Professor of the Department of Architecture of the Aristotle University, Director of the Department of Planning and Regional Development (academic year 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-2014) and Head of the Research Unit of Urban and Environmental Planning. 

Between 2010 and 2012 he was President of the Organization for the Master Plan Implementation and Environmental Protection of Thessaloniki. He is currently the director of the Urban Planning Archives of Thessaloniki.
